Edgar the Echidna spends an incredible amount of time digging and moving soil, searching for ants with his long snout and sticky tongue. From turning over so much soil, this improves soil mixing and water penetration, reduces erosion, and ultimately makes for healthier soils, which can lead to plant growth. It’s fair to say Edgar is environmentally minded!

Our process

Initial Sketch

My ideas for an artwork are inspired by nature. The first step involves researching my idea and sketching out my vision. Planning and sketching the initial drawing into correct scale and composition can be the longest part of the process.

Applying the paint

Now we are ready to paint! I use high quality watercolour paints, and start off by applying lighter colours, and building more depth, light and shadows to achieve the look and feel that I am after. Taking care of your brushes is key to making beautiful fine lines and detail.

The final product, ready to be framed

For me, the expression of the subject is what gives the painting character. Once I have finished refining the painting and I am happy with the overall look, its time to scan and print my work, ready to be framed.

For landscape paintings, colour and composition is very important for creating the feeling of peace and joy that nature brings. A limited colour palette is one of the key techniques used through all my work.
